It’s time for yet another look at how the flight training industry is doing now 16 months after the Corona virus made its entry across the entire world.
Since March this year, activities have picked up after the second wave of Covid-19 hit us during the winter months (northern hemisphere). Even though this recovery has continued at a slow but steady pace, the June activity levels have stagnated somewhat, as you will learn more about below.
Average number of students per flight academy in July is similar to the month before
When looking at the average number of active students per flight academy using the FlightLogger platform, June 2021 showed no signs of change compared to the previous month as the average number of active students per academy stayed at 80,5.
This was a bit surprising as we had expected a continued recovery, but there are many possible explanations to why this didn’t happen. Holiday season could surely be one external factor affecting the numbers.
Also, it could be that many students may have graduated just before June. When looking at previous years prior to Covid-19 we do see a tendency of active student numbers decreasing slightly during the first summer months on the northern hemisphere where many of the FlightLogger partners operate which could therefore be a valid explanation for why the recovery has seemingly halted in June.
Slight improvement in number of flights registered
When looking at how many flights were registered as completed by our partners, we do see a very small improvement in June compared to May. However, this is difficult to identify when looking at the weekly flights as shown in the graph below, so we have also taken a look at the total monthly number of flights.
In total, 38,206 flights were registered in June, which is 793 flights more than May, representing a 2,1% improvement. This should then be weighed against the fact that two additional academies have joined FlightLogger during that month, which means the improvement is quite insignificant.
All in all, our conclusion of the June data is that flight training activities are very similar to the month before, only seeing very insignificant improvements to flights registered.
We will of course post another update when our July data is available.
